Crystal Lake only just closed out its first season, and showrunner Brad Caleb Kane is already describing a bloodier, more unleashed direction for wherever the story goes next. In a new interview with TVLine, Kane said he has a fairly specific framework in mind for a second season of Peacock’s Friday the 13th prequel, built around one simple idea: Jason Voorhees‘s leash is off.
The idea comes directly out of how Season 1 ended: Jason survived, resurfaced with a bag over his head which means Pamela Voorhees, played by Linda Cardellini, now knows her son is alive. Kane described that reveal as removing the character’s narrative handcuffs, and said giving longtime fans more of the kills they are after is part of what he wants Season 2 to deliver.
It is a meaningful promise from a show that already leaned almost entirely on practical gore. Kane has said every kill across Season 1 was achieved on set rather than built in post, pointing to the season’s face slicing sequence as an example he estimates was enhanced by only two or three percent digitally. He credited makeup supervisor Dave Presto and special effects supervisor Johann Kunz for kills he called genuinely time consuming to pull off, work that shows in just how deliberately the season’s blood soaked back half escalates.
None of this amounts to an official renewal, mind you, and Peacock has not confirmed a second season of Crystal Lake. All eight episodes of Crystal Lake are currently streaming on Peacock.
