The Hungarian horror is heading for the upcoming American Film Market.
BLOODY NIGHT (VÉRES ÉJSZAKA) is the latest fright feature set inside a movie house, in this case the historic Apollo Cinema in Debrecen, Hungary. Written and directed by Tibor Dusa, it stars Akos Damoczi Pusztai, Levente Felfoldi, Tibor Somogyi, Petra Molnar, Stella Bacskai, Szabolcs Toth, Agnes Söreghy and Ferenc Varadi. The synopsis: “The film follows night watchman Lóránt Tompos, who discovers an old horror movie hidden in the theater’s basement. Despite warnings from his colleague Simi that the film is cursed, Tompos decides to screen it during one of his unofficial late-night showings. According to local legend, the movie premiered at the same cinema 30 years earlier, leaving all six audience members dead, while its director killed himself shortly afterward. Dismissing the story as superstition, Tompos proceeds with the screening, unwittingly awakening a dark force that unleashes a chain of brutal events inside the cinema.”
Dusa describes BLOODY NIGHT as “a tribute to classic horror cinema, the analog movie experience, and my hometown of Debrecen” and “a love letter to cinema—written in blood.” It premieres at the Apollo Cinema in October, followed by general theatrical release in Hungary in February 2027. We’ll keep you informed on its further distribution!
