Acclaimed UK filmmaker Mark Jenkin to helm chiller “ENYS MEN”

Following a slew of honors for his first feature BAIT (pictured), the writer/director will follow up with a project described as “an ecosophical horror film.”

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Mark Jenkin has landed co-financing from Film4 for ENYS MEN (Cornish for “stone island”), about a woman who is haunted by events from both her past and future. The movie will roll in May on location in Cornwall, with Denzil Monk producing. Jenkin has won multiple accolades for BAIT, an intense drama also set in Cornwall that he shot on black-and-white 16mm, and which is up for BAFTA Awards for outstanding British film of the year and outstanding debut by a British writer, director or producer, following multiple nominations from the London Critics Circle film awards and the British Independent Film Awards. BAIT has also been a hit on the UK art-house circuit, though it has yet to land U.S. distribution. (“Ecosophical,” by the way, refers to the philosophy of ecological harmony, which presumably will be pushed way out of balance in this film.)
