The filmmaker who revitalized Toho Studios’ classic monster is following up his smash hit.
The initial trailer has been unveiled (see it below) for GODZILLA MINUS ZERO, the 34th film in Toho’s kaiju franchise and the follow-up to Takashi Yamazaki’s 2023 GODZILLA MINUS ONE. Yamazaki returns as writer/director/visual effects supervisor of MINUS ZERO, which will open in Japan November 3 and hit U.S. theaters via GKIDS November 6; it’s the first Japanese feature film to be shot for IMAX. Details of the storyline have yet to be released, but it is a direct sequel to the events of MINUS ONE, and the trailer’s final images reveal that the Big G makes his way to New York City. GODZILLA MINUS ONE was a major success, becoming the biggest-grossing Japanese Godzilla film worldwide ($116 million) and the third highest-grossing foreign-language film in U.S. history ($57.1 million). It was also the first Japanese film to win the Oscar for Best Visual Effects.
