New Yorkers can get the jump on the Frankensteinian chiller that releases next week.

Rooftop Films is hosting a free showing of Laura Moss’ BIRTH/REBIRTH tomorrow, August 12 at Industry City (33 35th Street, Brooklyn, NY). Director Moss, who scripted the movie with Brendan O’Brien, will be on hand for a Q&A, and the screening will be preceded by a performance by retro-futuristic-electro-art-pop project MOTHERMARY. Doors open at 8 p.m., and the live music begins at 8:30, with the movie starting at 9; following the Q&A, there will be an afterparty. Admission is free with RSVP; go here to sign up.

BIRTH/REBIRTH, which opens exclusively in theaters August 18 from IFC Films and Shudder, stars Marin Ireland (THE DARK AND THE WICKED, THE EMPTY MAN), Judy Reyes and A.J. Lister. The synopsis: “Rose [Ireland] is a pathologist who prefers working with corpses over social interaction. She also has an obsession: the reanimation of the dead. Celie [Reyes] is a maternity nurse who has built her life around her bouncy, chatterbox six-year-old daughter, Lila [Lister]. When one tragic night, Lila suddenly falls ill and dies, the two women’s worlds crash into each other. They embark on a dark path of no return where they will be forced to confront how far they are willing to go to protect what they hold most dear.”
