The long-in-the-works creature effects showcase now has a premiere set.
It’s been a while since we heard about Blood Brother Productions’ SORORITY OF THE DAMNED, the horror/comedy we last reported on here. Now co-director/star Joe Davison has gotten in touch with new exclusive material and word that the movie will have its world premiere Saturday, April 26 at the Sunscreen Film Festival in St. Petersburg, Florida. It’s currently seeking distribution, and Davison tells us, “Ideally a theatrical release is the goal, but the market has changed so much that we’re not even sure that’s the route to go anymore. But the movie is fun as hell and a complete homage to my love of ’80s films, with a hint of Ray Harryhausen. My love for Raimi and Peter Jackson came through as well.”
Davison’s co-director was effects artist Roy Knyrim, and he scripted the film with Jeremy Lester. He plays “Trevor Harmony, a highly educated marine biologist who is tasked with fulfilling his family’s destiny of being a demon hunter. Felissa Rose plays a controlling sorority mom who wants nothing more than to bring back her sorority sisters from the grave. It just so happens that those women are the evil elemental witches Earth [Katarina Severen], Air [Sarah French], Fire [Anna Christensen] and Water [Renee Daw]. Richard Elfman plays the hard-as-nails grandfather of our lead character, and our sorority girls are Sydney Carvill, who plays Jenny, Kaleina Cordova as Amber, Chelsea Jordan as Morgan and Jaime Brightbill as Circey. All the girls’ names are derived from history books or lore; for example, Jenny is named after Jenny Greenteeth, a witch from English folklore who lured children and the elderly to water to watch them drown. Morgan is from Morgan le Fay from the legend of King Arthur, and so on.
“The movie was shot by the amazing Michael Su, and all the creature designs were created by Marcel Banks for SOTA FX. The statue’s design and fabrication was done by Ken Hall, the man who wrote PUPPET MASTER and did all the creatures for WILLY’S WONDERLAND, and it was played by Jeremy Lester. It was cool watching the statue stomp around and fight witches!”
