“The Princess Murders” #1 Gets a Blood-Soaked “Army of Darkness” Homage Variant Cover

Image Comics has unveiled a new variant cover for The Princess Murders #1 that swaps fairy tale finery for a grindhouse send-up of Sam Raimi’s Army of Darkness, and the issue is now open for preorder ahead of its December 9 release.

The Princess Murders comes from writer Tim Seeley (Hack/Slash) and artist Tony Fleecs (Stray Dogs), who reunite for a slasher set at a fairy tale royal court. The 40-page first issue follows Princess Lottie and her wicked stepsister Edwige as they travel to Sardinia, where a gathering of princesses competes to marry Prince Carlo. A black-gloved killer has other plans, turning the courtship into a fight for survival inside the castle walls. The series has also been teased with musical numbers, a wrinkle that’s set it apart from typical slasher fare since it was first previewed at New York Comic Con.

Cover C, drawn by Seeley with colours by Allen Passalaqua, recasts the story in a pose and palette that horror readers will recognize instantly from Raimi’s deadite-battling classic. The variant carries a $4.99 cover price, the same as the standard edition, and is available to preorder now through Third Eye Comics, with a final order cutoff of November 9.

The Princess Murders #1 can be preordered now through Third Eye Comics ahead of its December 9 on-sale date.
