Gaming has a history of celebrating its own, but award shows often pit horror offerings against triple-A mainstream titles with broader appeal. The recently announced HORROR GAME AWARDS, scheduled for September 7, finally sees the devs and pubs behind titles like Amnesia: The Bunker, Dead Island 2 and the remakes of Dead Space and Resident Evil 4 take center stage with an event of their very own.

Created by horror publisher Feardemic (Nightmare Reaper and Buddy Simulator 1984, recently reviewed in RUE MORGUE #213 ) in collaboration with pop-culture entertainment site IGN, the HORROR GAME AWARDS will tip its hat to bloody button-mashers from the past year as part of the two-day online Fear Fest event (not to be confused with the AMC movie marathon of the same name). Coveted Golden Bat awards will be doled out across thirteen categories, as well as one special lifetime achievement distinction. The best part is that all winners will be decided by fans! Categories include Horror Game of the Year, Best Narrative of the Year, Best Indie Horror and Best Horror Trailer

Day one of the event promises exclusive interviews with gaming personalities and world premieres, while day two will play host to the awards competition itself. Both days will be broadcast exclusively through IGN’s YouTube and Twitch channels, with the HORROR GAME AWARDS scheduled for 11 am PST (2 pm EST) on September 7.

Fan voting is currently open and runs through August 3.

Ever since watching CREEPSHOW as a child, Kevin Hoover has spent a lifetime addicted to horror (and terrified of cockroaches). He wholeheartedly believes in the concept of reanimating the dead if only we’d give it the old college try, and thinks FRIDAY THE 13th PART V is the best in the franchise. Aside from writing “Cryptid Cinema Chronicles” for Rue Morgue, he’s been a working copywriter for over a decade and you’ve probably bought something with his words on it. He also believes even the worst movie can be improved with buckets of gore.
