Sundance fright faves “NANNY,” “PIGGY” and “RUN SWEETHEART RUN” all receive debut dates

Now, wider audiences will have the chance to view these acclaimed films.

Prime Video will give theatrical play to writer/director Nikyatu Jusu’s NANNY (pictured), which won the Grand Jury Prize at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, on November 23, followed by a streaming premiere December 16. Anna Diop, Michelle Monaghan, Sinqua Walls, Morgan Spector, Rose Decker, Leslie Uggams and Zephani Idoko star; the synopsis: “Aisha [Diop] is an undocumented nanny working for a privileged couple in New York City. As she prepares for the arrival of the son she left behind in West Africa, a violent presence invades her reality, threatening the American Dream she is painstakingly piecing together.”

Prime Video also has RUN SWEETHEART RUN, which debuted at Sundance 2020, set to debut October 28. Directed by Shana Feste from a script by Feste, Keith Josef Adkins and Kellee Terrell, it stars Ella Balinska, Shohreh Aghdashloo, Pilou Asbaek, Clark Gregg, Aml Ameen, Dayo Okeniyi and Betsy Brandt. The synopsis: “After what begins as dinner with a client, a single mom [Balinska] finds herself hunted by a monstrous and seemingly unstoppable assailant [Asbaek] in this terrifying dark thriller.”

In addition, this year’s Sundance world premiere PIGGY is coming from Magnet Releasing October 14. Carlota Pereda scripted and directed, and the cast is headed by Laura Galán, Richard Holmes, Carmen Machi, Irene Ferreiro, Camille Aguilar, Pilar Castro and Claudia Salas. The synopsis: “With the summer sun beating down on her rural Spanish town, Sara [Galán] hides away in her parents’ butcher shop. A teenager whose excess weight makes her the target of incessant bullying, she flees a clique of capricious girls who torment her at the town pool, only to stumble upon them being brutally kidnapped by a stranger [Holmes], who drives off with them in his van. When the police begin asking questions, Sara keeps quiet. Intrigued by the stranger–an interest that’s mutual–she’s torn between revealing the truth and protecting the man who saved her.” See our review of PIGGY here.
