There’s something new and nasty lurking in this filmmaker’s woods.

Rod Blackhurst, director of the award-winning zombie-apocalypse drama HERE ALONE (see review here), is prepping a new screen chiller called BABYGIRL, and has released a disturbing proof-of-concept short you can see below. Blackhurst is producing the film with longtime collaborators Noah Lang and Ross O’Connor, through his Witchcraft Motion Picture Company, and is seeking financing for a shoot later this year.

BABYGIRL is described as “a fresh take on the slasher genre combining elements of the New French Extremity movement and the ethos of the origins of the genre as seen in the TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE franchise. The feature follows a young woman, Macy, caught in a horrifying fight for survival after being abducted by a deranged, monster-like figure who wants to raise Macy as their child.”

“When we made HERE ALONE, we did it as a small tribe of friends and collaborators,” says Blackhurst, whose credits also include the acclaimed documentaries AMANDA KNOX and JOHN WAYNE GACY: THE DEVIL IN DISGUISE. “It was beautiful, pure and fucking fun. We then got caught up trying to play in the studio world and just couldn’t get our legs under us. It was frustrating and, honestly, heartbreaking. So with BABYGIRL we are getting the band back together and making something hardcore, artful, and truly DIY. I am outrageously excited.” We’ll keep you posted on further developments!
