Coinciding with the release of filmmaker Tim Stevens‘ documentary DARK SANCTUARY: THE STORY OF THE CHURCH, distributor Cleopatra Entertainment, which recently acquired rights to the film following its successful festival run, has shared the video for “You Belong to the Night” from Texas goth/industrial legends Solemn Assembly with RUE MORGUE.
A candid glimpse into the infamous Dallas venue and its influence on the city’s community, DARK SANCTUARY features interviews with such artists as cEvin Key (Skinny Puppy), Patrick Codenys (Front 242), Bill Leeb (Front Line Assembly), Paul Oakenfold, and Claude S. (Anything Box) and many more. The film also focuses on the club’s longtime DJ (and Solemn Assembly founding member) Joe Virus, from his early years at The Church to his struggles with loss and alienation during the club’s closure during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We couldn’t be more excited to release through Cleopatra Entertainment given their street cred with fans of dark alternative music. The Church is the ‘Studio 54’ of goth clubs, and it’s a piece of music history the world needs to know about,” director Tim Stevens says.
DARK SANCTUARY: The Story Of The Church will be released on January 21st on VOD, Blu-ray and DVD along with a separate, stand-alone digital audio soundtrack featuring original music by Joe Virus.
