Roadside Attractions and Saban Films have announced that BUDDY, about a kids’ show star with very dark secrets, will have a special theatrical engagement as BUDDY: THE SING-ALONG VERSION beginning next Friday, October 2. The movie will be presented with onscreen lyrics to all of its songs, including “It’s Buddy!,” “You’ve Got to Be Scared to Be Brave” and “The Wrong Place in Town,” with audiences encouraged to not only sing along but dress up as their favorite characters as well. A gala premiere of THE SING-ALONG VERSION at Glendale, CA’s Alex Theater has already sold out.
“BUDDY audiences have inspired us like nothing we’ve seen before,” say Roadside Attractions co-presidents Howard Cohen and Eric d’Arbeloff and Saban Films co-president Jonathan Saba. “They’re already singing and dancing in the aisles. BUDDY: THE SING-ALONG VERSION is really just catching up with what these amazing fans are already doing—and we think they’re going to love it.”
BUDDY, which has grossed over $25 million since it opened August 28, was directed by Casper Kelly (who talks about it here) from a script he wrote with Jamie King, and stars Cristin Milioti, Delaney Quinn, Caleb “C.J.” Williams, Patton Oswalt and Keegan-Michael Key as the voice of Buddy.
