Diablo Cody Says “Jennifer’s Body 2” Will Make Its Demon More Sympathetic

Diablo Cody has given fans their clearest glimpse yet of where Jennifer’s Body 2 is headed, telling listeners of the Petticoat Revolution podcast that the sequel will lean further into making its demonically possessed lead a figure of sympathy rather than just a flesh-hungry threat.

Cody said she has always seen Jennifer as sympathetic on both sides of her transformation, calling out how often audiences fixate on the character’s predatory, post-possession self while skipping past the insecurity that defined her before it. She singled out Megan Fox‘s performance for capturing both halves of the equaton. “Megan played both of those sides of Jennifer so well,” Cody said, adding that the follow-up will “explore even more about why Jennifer is sympathetic and what she’s been through.”

Cody did not offer a release date, and plot or production details beyond her own involvement remain scarce. Director Karyn Kusama is expected to return behind the camera, with Fox reprising the role of Jennifer; Amanda Seyfried‘s involvement has been reported elsewhere but is not yet officially confirmed. Cody said only that the sequel is coming “soon,” which, for a film that’s been rumoured for the better part of a decade, horror fans will be forgiven for taking with a grain of salt.

Rue Morgue will update this story as more details on Jennifer’s Body 2, including casting, a studio and a release window, become official.
