Scary cinema continues to win respect as 2025’s best are honored.
The 31st annual Critics Choice Awards were handed out tonight, and fright features nabbed an impressive nine wins out of the 23 categories. Guillermo del Toro’s FRANKENSTEIN took Best Supporting Actor (Jacob Elordi), Production Design (Tamara Deverell and Shane Vieau), Costume Design (Kate Hawley) and Hair and Makeup (Mike Hill, Jordan Samuel and Cliona Furey); Ryan Coogler’s SINNERS scored for Coogler’s Original Screenplay, Young Performer (Miles Caton), Casting and Ensemble (Francine Maisler) and Score (Ludwig Göransson); and Amy Madigan was named Best Supporting Actress for Zach Cregger’s WEAPONS. (Paul Thomas Anderson’s ONE BATTLE AFTER ANOTHER won Best Picture and Director.) These are further promising signs for horror to make a strong showing at the Golden Globe Awards, which will be handed out next Sunday, January 11, and in the Oscar nominations, which will be announced Thursday, January 22.
