Grindhouse sets Drafthouse dates for restored ’70s shocker “HOLLYWOOD 90028”

The rediscovered serial-murder opus has won raves from early screenings.

Grindhouse Releasing has revealed over a dozen Alamo Drafthouse Cinema bookings next month for HOLLYWOOD 90028, a previously obscure 1973 flick that has been fully restored in 4K from the original camera negatives. Directed by Christina Hornisher, who also scripted under the pseudonym “Craig Hansen,” it stars Christopher Augustine as an alienated porno-movie cameraman turned serial strangler, along with Jeannette Dilger, Gayle Davis, and Dick Glass. Featuring an early score by Basil Poledouris (CONAN THE BARBARIAN, ROBOCOP), the movie played grindhouses and drive-ins in the ’70s and ’80s under the titles THE HOLLYWOOD HILLSIDE STRANGLER and TWISTED THROATS, but has never played on TV or been released on home video in the U.S.

In the last year, however, Grindhouse’s restoration has won comparisons to PEEPING TOM and TAXI DRIVER thanks to early showings at the Sitges festival, Helsinki’s Night Visions Film Festival, The Future of Film is Female in New York City and LA’s New Beverly Cinema and The American Cinematheque. It next screens this Saturday-Sunday, May 18-19 at Portland, OR’s Hollywood Theatre. The Drafthouse schedule is:
