Tired of anemic Halloween TV? Seriously, how many times can you watch Hocus Pocus? Well, Shudder has your Samhain celebration covered with 61 days of Halloween horror programming clawing its way out of the grave and lumbering into your home beginning September 1. This year will see the streamer unleash its biggest ever slate of must-see original series and new movies, including the long-awaited premieres of V/H/S/99 and Dario Argento’s Dark Glasses. Also debuting during the two-month event are the features Resurrection, Deadstream, Speak No Evil, Saloum, Raven’s Hollow, Sissy, Who Invited Them, Flux Gourmet and She Will.
Fans of Shudder’s original series will also find their treat bags filled to the brim with such goodies as Queer for Fear: A History of Queer Horror, The 101 Scariest Horror Movie Moments of All Time and a new (and as yet untitled) series from The Boulet Brothers. Of course, it’s not Halloween without the mighty Joe Bob Briggs and Darcy the Mail Girl, who will be firing up the projector for a new Last Drive-in special on October 21. This spooky season also marks the return of Shudder’s “Ghoul Log,” a 24/7 streaming jack-o’-lantern that provides the perfect ambiance for all your Halloween festivities. Fan favorites “The Ghoul Log,” “Return of the Ghoul Log” and “Night of the Ghoul Log” are back along with a surprise new installment for 2022.
Shudder has even more fun-size tricks up its sleeve with frightening new additions to its monstrous film library, including a Rob Zombie trifecta of 31, The Devil’s Rejects and The Lords of Salem. Frank LaLoggia’s stylish 1988 ghost story, The Lady in White and British cult zombie shocker The Living Dead at the Manchester Morgue (aka Let Sleeping Corpses Lie) are also coming to the network along with many others, including the animated Edgar Allan Poe anthology Extraordinary Tales, Mexican occult-zombie-slasher Cemetery of Terror and Satoshi Kon’s Perfect Blue in its first time on streaming.
This year, Shudder brings a personal touch to your holiday viewing with the Halloween Hotline. Every Friday in October from 3 to 4 p.m. ET, members are invited to call Samuel Zimmerman, Shudder’s head of programming, to discuss all things horror from their favorite genre films of all time to the most highly anticipated horror releases of the year. From those conversations, Sam will use his expertise to offer customized viewing recommendations from Shudder’s expansive film collection.
