THESE CROWDFUNDING CAMPAIGNS ARE HEATING UP!

Summer is heating up and so are these indie horror crowdfunding campaigns. Send these creators some monetary love and help them sweat the financial stuff a little less, while getting yourself a cool little reward. Everyone wins!

Monsters in the Closet – A Queer History of Horror Cinema
$20,000 CAD

https://youtu.be/4zPCM14-SCQ

Queer themes have always been woven into the fabric of the horror films we know and love, whether we notice them or not. James Somerton plans to investigate this history of queerness in horror cinema in his full length documentary and book Monsters in the Closet. Expect clips from early days of film to current releases, and interviews with experts, fans, and the filmmakers themselves.

Rise of the Goatman
$5,145 CAD

At this point, we should probably expect that any vacation involving a cabin in the woods is going to go awry. And that it does in Rise of the Goatman, the latest 29 page offering from Afterlight Comics. Follow the Thomas family on their trip to a rustic cabin where they discover a diary detailing the insidious past of the former owner.

The Return of the Nacken
$6,564 CAD

Have you ever stopped to think about how monsters feel, deep down? No, you only think about yourself. The Return of the Nacken aims to show the lonely side of being a monster yearning for human connection (and their souls). Inspired by a shape-shifting water demon from Scandinavian folk tales, this dark fantasy horror features surreal imagery, full body prosthetics and practical effects.

Death Care
$6,564 CAD

The American healthcare system is known for being pretty scary, so it’s not surprising that it has inspired a new horror film. Based on real-ish events, Death Care features a gang of nurses dispatched to “help” undesirable patients move on to the other side. Lynn Lowry, Maria Olsen, Linnea Quigley and Helen Udy are among the talents already associated with the production.
