’80s slasher classic “PROM NIGHT” is coming to 4K UHD/Blu-ray from Synapse; full details & art

Fans of high-school horror have a reason to celebrate this summer.

Synapse Films has announced an August 3 street date for its 4K UHD/Blu-ray limited-edition (3,000 units) release of PROM NIGHT, director Paul Lynch’s 1980 slasher favorite starring Jamie Lee Curtis and Leslie Nielsen. Pre-orders are now open at the Synapse website as well as DiabolikDVD and Orbit DVD. The film, in which a vengeance-seeking killer stalks a group of friends before and during their prom, is presented on the region-free discs in a new 4K remaster of the original 35mm camera negative in Dolby Vision at 1.78:1 widescreen, with a new Dolby Atmos surround sound mix and the original 2.0 theatrical mono audio, with optional English SDH subtitles. Special features are:

  • Audio commentary by director Paul Lynch and screenwriter William Gray, moderated by Pat Jankiewicz
  • The Horrors of Hamilton High—The Making of PROM NIGHT
  • Horror’s Hallowed Grounds: PROM NIGHT, hosted by Sean Clark and ScottOnTape
