The period supernatural film has spooky artwork befitting that era.
BROOKLYN 45, the latest from WE ARE STILL HERE and MOHAWK writer/director Ted Geoghegan, has its world premiere this Sunday, March 12 at the SXSW Film Festival, with two further showings March 14 and March 17. (See details here.) Anne Ramsay, Ron E. Rains, Jeremy Holm (THE RANGER), veteran actor/filmmaker Larry Fessenden, Ezra Buzzington (MOHAWK, THE HILLS HAVE EYES) and Kristina Klebe (HALLOWEEN, DON’T KILL IT) star. The synopsis: “Friday, December 27, 1945. Five military veterans gather in the ornate parlor of a Brooklyn brownstone. Best friends since childhood, they’ve reunited to support their troubled host–but when his invitation for cocktails turns into an impromptu séance, the metaphoric ghosts of their past become all too literal. Trapped in their host’s lounge, the Greatest Generation now find themselves put to one final test…with their only route to freedom being more bloodshed.”
The poster was created by Marc Schoenbach of Sadist Art Designs, and Geoghegan tells RUE MORGUE, “I wanted original artwork for BROOKLYN 45 that evoked poster designs of the mid-1940s–big, bold and colorful works that we simply don’t see anymore. As more and more corners of cinema become digital avatars of what they once were, painted poster art remains one of the last bastions of yesteryear. I’m overjoyed with Marc’s work, and excited to launch our film not just at SXSW and other festivals, but on Shudder later this year.”
The BROOKLYN 45 art is part of the SXSW 2023 Poster Competition, with the artwork involved on display at SXSW’s poster gallery, located in the Palazzo of the Austin Convention Center (500 E. Cesar Chavez St, Austin, TX). The movie next plays the Overlook Film Festival, running March 30-April 2 in New Orleans, ahead of its Shudder debut on a date to be announced in 2023.
