The new movie from the creator of LORD OF TEARS, THE BLACK GLOVES, etc. is currently in postproduction.

Inspired by the classic thrillers of Alfred Hitchcock, vintage noir and Val Lewton’s horror films, THE BLACK CHARIOT is a new black-and-white supernatural frightfest from Scottish director Lawrie Brewster and Hex Studios. It stars Laurence R. Harvey (pictured above and first photo below) from the HUMAN CENTIPEDE sequels, Novarra Ramon, Dorian Todd, Sam Barclay, Megan Tremethick, Richard Pate, Nick Ford and Marco Rinaldi. According to the official synopsis, “Harvey plays a ruthless manipulator who coerces three young men [Ramon, Todd and Barclay] into carrying out the perfect crime: stealing a valuable red briefcase whose mysterious contents drive our characters to a dark meeting place. Here, they encounter a spine-tingling figure known as ‘The Devil’ [Pate], along with two vicious private detectives [Ford and Rinaldi].

“The gang’s crime and ensuing tragedy culminate in the release of supernatural forces, forcing the criminals and a beautiful hostage in their charge [Tremethick], into a battle for survival against an unlikely foe. As night falls, they must evade the red headlights of a black Wolseley 15/50 that moves silently through the dark. But that is the least of their problems, for this black chariot does not drive itself alone—within travels a figure of nightmares, dressed in white and moving silently through the shadows.”

Brewster tells us, “BLACK CHARIOT is a passion project that channels the chilling elegance of Hitchcock and the brooding intensity of classic noir. My aim is to create a film that is as hauntingly beautiful as it is terrifying–just like me!”

“With BLACK CHARIOT, we’re returning to horror’s classic cinematic roots,” adds producer Sarah Daly. “It’s a chilling, mind-bending mystery that balances both style and substance with its complex characters, captivating story and stunning cinematography.”

Ramon, who lives his actual life as the imagined reincarnation of silent-era star Ramon Novarra, says, “BLACK CHARIOT is more than a film for me; it’s a spiritual journey through time, merging the silent era’s mystique with modern-day horror.” And Tremethick, a.k.a. Miss Amicus, says, “I felt irresistibly drawn to BLACK CHARIOT–by its ethereal and uncanny storyline, which felt so, so reminiscent of the heart and spirit of CARNIVAL OF SOULS, one of the most haunting films I’ve ever seen.”

A Kickstarter page for BLACK CHARIOT’s completion will be launched August 6; you can pre-sign up for it here.
