“MEAN GIRLS meets I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER” in the production that just launched a crowdfunding campaign.
Director Gregory W. Brock is gearing up for the Kentucky shoot of THE LAST SLEEPOVER, which he scripted with Austin J. Rutherford and blends “psychological tension, slasher horror, and darkly comedic social dynamics.” Produced by P.J. Starks (NEW FEARS EVE), Jacob Ennis (THE ART OF KILLING) and Jake C. Young, it will roll in late March and stars Felissa Rose, Spooky Madison, Ashe Parker, Anne-Marie Olsen, Audri Curtsinger, Jason Crowe, Holly Anspaugh, Brittany Brizzee, Melissa O. Bowen and T.J. Moreschi. The synopsis: “A group of former high school friends reunite on the night of their 20th-year class reunion. Once part of an elite clique called ‘The Pastels,’ they harbor a dark secret–years ago, they tormented a less fortunate girl in a cruel prank that ended in tragedy. After the reunion, they continue the night at an Airbnb for one last sleepover, but the celebration quickly turns into a nightmare. A masked killer begins hunting them down one by one, seeking revenge for the sins of their past.”
“Slasher fans, get ready!” Brock tells RUE MORGUE. “THE LAST SLEEPOVER is the bloody, nostalgia-fueled horror film you’ve been waiting for! Packed with suspense, brutal kills, and a masked killer with a vengeance, this film will deliver everything we love about classic slashers while bringing a fresh, modern twist. If you’re a fan of SCREAM, I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER, or PROM NIGHT, this one’s for you.”
Adds Rutherford, “Greg and I, along with the rest of our team, are working tirelessly to produce something we think people will enjoy–a stylish genre film created by fans for the fans. With a clever script, beautiful locations, and an incredible cast and crew in place, we feel as if we are really going to make something special!”
“I’m a sucker for the slasher subgenre,” Starks says. “After I read the script, I was on board. They’ve written a fun whodunit that harks back to a time when these films were about entertaining the audience first, having a cool killer and keeping the audience guessing. I’m excited to be working with Greg and Austin; I’m a big fan of collaboration, and these guys are very open to ideas. I’m also big on inventive kills, so I worked with them on coming up with some very unique ways of dispatching characters or building on what was already in the script. The audience is definitely in for a ride.”
The LAST SLEEPOVER team has launched an Indiegogo campaign to raise some of the film’s financing, offering perks including limited-edition merch, onscreen appearances (including a death scene) and more. Check it out here, and see the movie’s proof-of-concept video below.
