An especially eclectic assortment of horror and exploitation fare will be showcased at the 13th installment of the Hudson Horror Show in upstate New York, with six features screening from the ’70s and ’80s, all on 35mm.
The first year of the Cinepocalypse fest in Chicago (which grew out of Bruce Campbell’s Horror Film Festival) is shaping up to be a hot one, with a second round of premiering features and cult classics (with special guests) now announced.
Today, the third dimension is applied to the biggest blockbuster releases, but back in the 1970s and ’80s, 3D was the province of horror and exploitation. A week-long festival in New York City this month celebrates these films with a lineup of 35mm screenings, including new prints and personal appearances.

Halloween comes early at AGO First Thursdays. Inspired by the new exhibition Guillermo del Toro: At Home with Monsters, the October First Thursday celebrates the macabre, the supernatural and the obsessive and is headlined by the avant-pop icon Peaches.
