Exclusive trailer: Drugs and witchcraft in psychological horror feature “DEMENTIUM”

Freestyle Digital Media has announced its acquisition of DEMENTIUM, and will release it on North American digital HD Internet, DVD, cable and satellite platforms August 18. The distributor gave us the first look at the trailer, which you can see below. Mark Wilson Sunderland directed from a script he wrote with Clayton Thompson and Kyle Sunderland; Michael Aaron Milligan, Karynn Moore, Dani Deetté, Kristen Rakes, Adam Boyer, Doug Dawson, Murretta Moss, Luke Speakman, Alexa Jennings, Andrew Hunter and JJ Madaris star. The synopsis: “DEMENTIUM tells the story of Wyatt Bailey [Milligan], who retreats to a secluded cabin on a Christmas tree farm, driven by a single goal: to uncover the truth about his mother’s murder. But the only person who might hold the answer, his father, lies dead, wrapped in plastic in the trunk of his car. In desperation, Wyatt turns to the psychedelic drug DMT (Dimethyltryptamine), determined to confront his father’s spirit and ask the unthinkable: Did he kill his own wife?

“What follows is a hallucinatory descent into horror and hope as Wyatt is visited by two forces from beyond. His charismatic ex-girlfriend, Cora [Moore], urges him to relive their first date, tempting him with the possibility of love and redemption. At the same time, a malevolent witch stalks him, pushing him toward violence and despair. Trapped in this drug-fueled nightmare, Wyatt must navigate visions of memory, desire, and fear while battling for his soul and deciding whether the truth will destroy him or set him free.”

“This project gave us the opportunity to build the kind of creative environment I always hoped existed: one where leadership means creating trust, shared ownership, and the opportunity for the people who build something to share in its success,” says director Sunderland. “I’m incredibly proud of the film we created together, but I’m even prouder of the community that came together to make it. I hope this project contributes to the conversation about the future of independent filmmaking and the responsibility of creative leadership.”
