The long-mooted reimagining is at last becoming a reality.
Focus Features has announced the start of production on NOSFERATU, a new take on F.W. Murnau’s 1922 silent vampire classic (pictured, and previously and memorably remade in 1979 by Werner Herzog). Written and directed by Robert Eggers, who has been developing the project for several years, the film stars Bill Skarsgård (IT, BARBARIAN) in the title role, Nicholas Hoult (THE MENU), Lily-Rose Depp, Emma Corrin, Aaron Taylor-Johnson (BULLET TRAIN), Willem Dafoe (from Eggers’ THE LIGHTHOUSE, and played Murnau’s star Max Schreck in SHADOW OF THE VAMPIRE), Simon McBurney and Ralph Ineson (Eggers’ THE WITCH). According to the official synopsis, “Robert Eggers’ NOSFERATU is a Gothic tale of obsession between a haunted young woman in 19th-century Germany and the ancient Transylvanian vampire who stalks her, bringing untold horror with him.”
Eggers is also producing the movie with Jeff Robinov, John Graham, Chris Columbus and Eleanor Columbus. It’s currently filming on locations in Prague.
