CRIMES OF THE FUTURE, an update of Cronenberg’s 1970 movie, will be in competition at the forthcoming Cannes Film Festival and opens in theaters June 3 from Neon. Cronenberg wrote and directed CRIMES, which stars Viggo Mortensen, Léa Seydoux, Kristen Stewart, Scott Speedman, Welket Bungué, Don McKellar, Yorgos Pirpassopoulos, Tanaya Beatty, Nadia Litz, Lihi Kornowski and Denise Capezza. The synopsis: “As the human species adapts to a synthetic environment, the body undergoes new transformations and mutations. With his partner Caprice [Seydoux], Saul Tenser [Mortensen], celebrity performance artist, publicly showcases the metamorphosis of his organs in avant-garde performances. Timlin [Stewart], an investigator from the National Organ Registry, obsessively tracks their movements, which is when a mysterious group is revealed. Their mission: to use Saul’s notoriety to shed light on the next phase of human evolution.”
