“SAINT MAUD” and “HIS HOUSE” score in BAFTA Awards longlist

The acclaimed chillers are in the running for a number of major British Film Awards.

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts announced today the longlist of all categories for 2020 movies, from which the final nominees will be chosen and announced March 9, with the ceremony taking place April 11. Among the 20 features contending for Outstanding British Film are Rose Glass’ SAINT MAUD (pictured), currently in theatrical release by A24 and streaming via Epix beginning February 12 (see our review here), and Remi Weekes’ HIS HOUSE, released by Netflix (and named Best Feature Film by the RM staff). Both are also among the 12 movies longlisted for Outstanding Debut By a British, Writer, Director or Producer, and SAINT MAUD’S Morfydd Clark and HIS HOUSE’s Wunmi Mosaku are on the 15-person longlist for the Leading Actress award. In addition, SAINT MAUD is on the longlists for Director, Original Screenplay, Supporting Actress (Jennifer Ehle), Casting, Cinematography, Editing, Original Score and Sound; Leigh Whannell’s THE INVISIBLE MAN is in contention for Adapted Screenplay, Special Visual Effects and Sound; and Kleber Mendonça Filho and Juliano Dornelles’ BACURAU is on the longlist for Film Not in English Language.

As we await the final selections, you can read our interviews with HIS HOUSE’s Weekes and Mosaku; look for chats with MAUD’s Glass and Clark at this site next week.
