An “Evil Dead 2” escape Room from home? Hourglass Escapes makes it happen!

By MARIAM BASTANI

For a limited time only, Hourglass Escapes is now offering a virtual escape room experience! This is the first officially licensed video escape room (by Studiocanal S.A.S) based on Sam Raimi’s Evil Dead 2.

The Rue Crew tuned in last week for their Original Evil Dead 2: DEAD BY DAWN™ Live Video Escape Room. Six of us met online to find the Kandarian dagger to destroy the book of the dead and save our souls!

You may be asking, “How is this going to work?” Imagine a first person-person video game where your eyes and ears are an actual person taking direction from the group! Equipped with a mic and camera, our host seamlessly took direction, listening to six voices at once.

Before playing, you consult a Player Packet that arms you with the tools you will need, tips for best game-play and even cocktail recipes to play the accompanying drinking game. There is also a short bio of each character you have to choose from along with costume suggestions and custom Zoom backgrounds to download.

The puzzles are challenging with an impressive balance in types of puzzles that appeal to each individual player. As you discover clues, you have a virtual logbook that gives you a closer look at the discovered items and even puzzles within the puzzle! There is great care in the set design and the cabin is full of Easter eggs that true fans of Evil Dead 2 will pick up on.

The game is funny but also tense and scary, capturing the same creepy to goofy flow as the film. You’ll need a free Zoom account, three to six players and it’s $30 per player. The games are scheduled in Pacific Standard time and you have 70 minutes to escape the cabin. Again, Evil Dead 2: DEAD BY DAWN™ is available for a limited time only, so don’t wait!
