Mike Flanagan adapting Christopher Pike’s “THE MIDNIGHT CLUB” for Netflix

Having successfully tackled Stephen King and Shirley Jackson for the big and small screens, the writer/director is now turning to a YA horror favorite.

Variety reports that Mike Flanagan will be one of the writers and executive producers on THE MIDNIGHT CLUB, a Netflix series based on Christopher Pike’s 1994 novel. Set in Rotterdam Home, a hospice for terminally ill teenagers, it focuses on a group of patients who get together at midnight to tell horror stories, and make a pact that whichever of them dies first will contact the others from beyond the grave. Flanagan is scripting with Leah Fong, who is also among the executive producers, along with Flanagan’s frequent collaborator Trevor Macy and Julia Bicknell. The MIDNIGHT CLUB show will also draw from other Pike books, which include the CHAIN LETTER and THE THIRST series; directors and cast have yet to be announced. Flanagan and Netflix’s THE HAUNTING OF BLY MANOR, which adapts THE TURN OF THE SCREW and other Henry James works, is planned for a premiere later this year, and Flanagan also created the streamer’s forthcoming MIDNIGHT MASS.
