Controversial “THE HUNT” finally coming to theaters next month; poster targets the uproar

Trump be damned: Universal and Blumhouse have announced a new release date for their much-debated and unfairly maligned thriller THE HUNT, with a new ad campaign directly addressing the attacks on it.

THE HUNT will be released theatrically Friday, March 13; you can see the new trailer and poster below. Craig Zobel directed the film from a script by Damon Lindelof and Nick Cuse, with Betty Gilpin, Ike Barinholtz, Emma Roberts, Hilary Swank, Ethan Suplee, J.C. MacKenzie, Amy Madigan and Macon Blair starring. The synopsis: “Twelve strangers wake up in a clearing. They don’t know where they are, or how they got there. They don’t know they’ve been chosen…for a very specific purpose…The Hunt. In the shadow of a dark internet conspiracy theory, a group of elites gathers for the very first time at a remote manor house to hunt ordinary Americans for sport. But the elites’ master plan is about to be derailed because one of The Hunted, Crystal [Gilpin], knows The Hunters’ game better than they do. She turns the tables on the killers, picking them off, one by one, as she makes her way toward the mysterious woman [Swank] at the center of it all.” The initial release set for September 27 last year was scrapped following a series of mass shootings and attacks by president Trump and others on-line, declaring it to be liberal propaganda and other such nonsense. Watch the trailer to see what it’s actually about.
