The indigenous sci-fi/horror film sees Canadian release this month.

Game Theory Films is giving THE BEEHIVE theatrical play November 17 at Vancouver’s Rio Theatre (the BC premiere, with cast and filmmakers in attendance) and Toronto November 24, followed by digital release via Hollywood Suite, CBC and APTN Lumi. Written and directed by Alexander Lasheras, it stars Meadow Kingfisher, Stephen JF Walker, Kaydin Gibson, Aleen Sparrow, Jim Ewens and Charleen Phelps, with makeup effects by Lindala Schminken FX Inc. (SUPERNATURAL, THE X FILES) and creatures designed by Lance Webb.

According to the official synopsis, THE BEEHIVE “follows the Piers family–a widowed single father, Frank [Walker], and his two children, Arron [Gibson] and Rosemary [Kingfisher]–as they face an unexplainable cosmic event at their family farm. The next day, Rosemary discovers a large bees’ nest growing on the branch of a big leaf maple tree and visits it each day to document its unusual growth. However, when her father and brother discover it, it has grown into a disturbingly large cocoon-like object. Frank attempts to inspect the nest but is stung by a camouflaged stinger, becoming infected with an alien virus.”
