The new clip was inspired by video favorites from a bygone decade.

Byron C. Miller, filmmaker and vocalist/lyricist of dark industrial band Dracula Party (pictured above with model JQ Quesada), gave RUE MORGUE the first look below at the video for the group’s new single “Something Scary.” Directed by Dan Wilder and shot by Wilder and Megan Bishop (who also took the photo above), it harks back to the glory days of shot-on-video horror.

“When Dracula Party contacted me with the idea of creating the music video for ‘Something Scary,’” Wilder tells us, “they stated their desire to create a psychotronic collection of horror imagery. I jumped at the chance to just let my Halloween- and fright flick-obsessed mind run free! This video also afforded me the opportunity to create on my own, free-form schedule. I’d dream up new sequences, film them and send them off to Dracula Party for approval, with the only limitations being what I could create from what I had on hand. It was liberating, and truly felt like punk rock filmmaking.

“Shooting in the shot-on-video style made sure that things were loose, creative and filled with inspiration from the days of mom-and-pop home video shops–the places I and many others utilized as film school. Adding to the overall aesthetic of the piece are the inclusion of performance footage shot by the mega-talented Megan Bishop–founder/owner of iconic fetish fashion line Apotico, photographer and wardrobe stylist for the upcoming feature film, THE DEMONATRIX), and the editing by Byron, whose work really makes the piece explode to life!”

Says Miller, who is joined in the video by Katelyn Wilder, “It was a blast to team up with Dan again! He previously did the music video for our track ‘Hack-O-Lantern.’ I love his screenplays and short films, he has an amazing visual mind and his VHS aesthetic works perfectly with what we do in Dracula Party.”

The “Something Scary” single is available on all music platforms from Re:Mission Entertainment, and you can find out more about the band here and check out their music videos here. You can follow Dracula Party (for which Chris Staccato handles the music production) on Instagram and Facebook; they’ll next play the sold-out 15th Anniversary Mechanismus Industrial Music Festival 2024 in Seattle on June 27.
