“VS” DEBATE: SHOULD MINORITY FILMMAKERS BE GIVEN EXTRA RESOURCES TO LEVEL THE PLAYING FIELD?

Friday, January 18, 2019 | Poll

No one can dispute that diversity in horror is a great thing, but how far should we go to ensure it happens? This issue, two writers enter the ring to contest a controversial subject…

Should minority filmmakers be given extra resources to level the playing field?

In the first corner, CAROLYN MAURICETTE argues Yes, stating that “as much as we applaud the organic genesis of Get Out beating the odds, consistent representation can only be achieved by enforcing equality until it’s the norm.”

In the opposite corner, BENOIT BLACK counters with No, arguing that “now more than ever the field is leveled in favour of ideas, and this is where everyone must compete.”

Read both arguments in their entirety in the latest issue of RUE MORGUE #186, now available and cast your vote below!
