For nearly eight years, gamers have been braving the misty landscapes of asymmetrical horror hit Dead by Daylight. Insomuch that the game’s community loves to argue about the perfect perk build for survivors or just how overpowered the latest killer seems to be, speculating about what each new DLC drop brings every three months is one activity that nearly every player seems to enjoy. With almost every major horror franchise tapped for their respective figureheads, including Michael Myers, Pinhead, Freddy Krueger, and Leatherface, the game’s developers decided to corral one name that likely no one had on their bingo card: Nicolas Cage.
Cage is certainly no stranger to horror, with this year’s Renfield raking in buckets of cash and ultra-gritty 8MM having qualified itself as a cult hit. While details remain scarce at the moment, the game’s publisher, Behaviour Interactive, did roll out the red carpet to welcome its newest addition to The Fog:
“Behaviour Interactive, the largest independent studio in Canada and a pioneer in the video game industry for 30 years, proudly announces an unprecedented collaboration with the iconic actor Nicolas Cage, marking the beginning of an exciting new era in the realm of interactive entertainment. The game unveiled the news on May 17 at 11:00 AM, confirming that the award-winning thespian will be joining Dead by Daylight’s impressive character roster – as himself.
Boasting more than 50 million downloads internationally, Dead by Daylight is an action-horror asymmetrical multiplayer game in which one unstoppable Killer hunts down four Survivors through a terrifying game of hide-and-seek. Nicolas Cage is an actor, director, and producer whose remarkable versatility has led to great success across all genres for over four decades. Cage’s recent work has been tremendously well received by both audiences and critics alike.”
Dead by Daylight’s world is rich with lore, explaining just how each character – killer and survivor – came to exist within the realm of The Entity, the game’s omnipresent dark lord. Cage’s story is as follows:
“After countless awards and over one hundred movies shot across the globe, Nicolas Cage had seen it all and done it all – or so he thought. While on set filming the role of a lifetime, his performance summoned The Entity, a malevolent being of incomprehensible power. The actor soon found himself cast in otherworldly Fog, forced to Survive a host of terrifying Killers deadlier than even the most scathing film critic.”
While Behaviour will host a livestream event on May 19 to outline their plans for content over the coming year, details about Cage’s involvement appear to remain under wraps until July 5.
Dead by Daylight is currently available on all major gaming consoles, PC, and mobile devices.
