It’s seeing wider release following play at Beyond Fest, Fantasia, FrightFest and more.

Dark Star Pictures opens THE SERPENT’S SKIN beginning March 27 at select venues across the U.S.; see the schedule below. It’s the sixth feature from 21-year-old trans Australian director Alice Maio Mackay, whose previous movies include T BLOCKERS and CARNAGE FOR CHRISTMAS. Scripted by Mackay and Benjamin Pahl Robinson, it stars fellow young filmmaker Avalon Fast (HONEYCOMB), Alexandra McVicker, Jordan Dulieu, Charlotte Chimes, Scott Major, Alyssa Peters and Lewi Dawson. The synopsis: “Twentysomething Anna [McVicker] leaves her small, transphobic hometown to start a new life in the city with her sister when she quickly finds herself face-to-face with Gen [Fast], a confident young woman she’d first seen in visions. Gen, Anna learns, has supernatural powers—powers that the two of them share. Their bond of magic and romance is threatened when Gen inadvertently unleashes a demon in Danny [Dulieu], Anna’s one-time fling and neighbor, and the mysterious evil begins targeting—and feeding on—everyone close to them.”

THE SERPENT’S SKIN will open in New York at the Alamo Drafthouse Downtown Brooklyn March 27 and at Los Angeles’ Alamo Drafthouse DTLA April 3 as part of a special Fantastic Fest Presents showcase, with Mackay and special guests in attendance on the opening nights. Additional screenings with director Q&As include San Francisco’s Roxie Theater April 2 and LA’s Vidiots April 4, with further playdates to be announced.
