“Tomb of the Black Pharaoh” Sends an OSS Agent Into Nazi-Occult Egypt

Crystal Lake Publishing exhumes Christopher Michael’s WWII-occult thriller Tomb of the Black Pharaoh, the opening dig in a planned trilogy of Nazi-occult horror.

Crystal Lake Publishing has exhumed Tomb of the Black Pharaoh, the first installment of Christopher Michael‘s Danforth: Eldritch Tales of WWII series, now available in paperback and digital editions through the publisher and other retailers.

Set in Egypt in 1941, the novel drops OSS operative Robert Danforth into the middle of an SS archaeological dig that has nothing to do with antiquities and everything to do with a shortcut to omniscience. Danforth’s chase takes him through buried tombs across Egypt and Arabia and into a strain of forbidden knowledge that doesn’t stay contained to daylight hours; it follows him into his dreams, and it doesn’t leave when he wakes up.

“The Nazis believe they have found a way to see the future. The price is human blood.”

Pulp adventure and cosmic dread have a long fruitful history together going back to the works of H.P. Lovecraft. Michael is a former U.S. Army soldier and law enforcement officer who, per the publisher, developed the Danforth books out of his own recovery from PTSD. Tomb of the Black Pharaoh is the first of three Danforth novels Crystal Lake has slated for 2026 since signing Michael last October. The second, The Horror in the Lamplights, is due October 30.

Paperback and Kindle editions are available now through Crystal Lake’s retail link.
