The period chiller will be streaming not long after its North American premiere.

Shudder has announced that it will debut THE DEVIL’S BATH June 28. Written and directed by Veronika Franz and Severin Fiala, the duo behind GOODNIGHT MOMMY and THE LODGE, it stars Anja Plaschg, Maria Hofstätter, David Scheid, Tim Valerian Alberti and Natalya Baranova. The synopsis: “In 1750 Austria, a deeply religious woman named Agnes [Plaschg] has just married her beloved, but her mind and heart soon grow heavy as her life becomes a long list of chores and expectations. Day after day, she is increasingly trapped in a murky and lonely path leading to evil thoughts, until the possibility of committing a shocking act of violence seems like the only way out of her inner prison. Giving a voice to the invisible and unheard women of the rural past, THE DEVIL’S BATH is based on historical court records about a shocking, hitherto unexplored chapter of European history.”

THE DEVIL’S BATH nabbed 11 nominations for the 2024 Austrian Film Awards, including Best Film. It has its North American premiere in the Midnight section of New York City’s Tribeca Film Festival, which runs June 5-16.
