The Japanese auteur’s latest is a serial killer shocker with a difference.
New York City’s Japan Society (333 East 47th Street) has announced that it will host the North American premiere showing of Takashi Miike’s LUMBERJACK THE MONSTER on Monday, May 6 at 8 p.m. There will also be a pre-screening reception at 7 p.m. with beverages donated by Sapporo-Stone Brewing and Brooklyn Kura. Based on Mayusuke Kurai’s novel, LUMBERJACK THE MONSTER stars Kazuya Kamenashi, Nanao, Riho Yoshioka, Shota Sometani and Shido Nakamura. The synopsis: “This cat-and-mouse chase between a serial killer and a lawyer hot on his trail is filled with gruesome murders, missing brains, and disturbing secrets. The most disturbing? The lawyer is a psychopath. Yes, Takashi Miike’s newest nightmare is the brutal showdown between a serial killer and a psychopath lawyer. It’s a bloody good time.” Tickets for the premiere are available at Japan Society’s website; see the movie’s Japanese trailer below.
