No one knows better than horror convention organizers that Halloween really is a year-round affair, and the team behind Florida’s celebrated SPOOKY EMPIRE are kicking off con season in a big way with a show that has been months in the making. Venturing up the coast to the beautiful lowcountry of Charleston, SC, February 7th and 8th, the Charleston Area Convention Center will host this year’s installment of the new series of shows taking place outside of the Sunshine State.

Genre icons and pop culture darlings will be on hand meetin’ and greetin’ (and in one case, stylin’ and profilin’), including:

  • Kane Hodder
  • Bam Margera
  • Felissa Rose
  • The Lost Boys’ Billy Wirth and Chance Michael Corbitt
  • WWE Hall of Famers Ric Flair and Mick Foley

Early birds can pre-game with fellow fright fans on Friday night, February 6th, at the adjacent Embassy Suites. As an added bonus, Saturday night after the con floor closes, Courtney Gains (Children of the Corn) will be playing a free concert at the Rusty Bull Brewing Co. for all to attend.

RUE MORGUE is one of this year’s featured vendors and will have swag, discounted magazine subscriptions and back issues for those looking to fill a few holes in their libraries. And in what has fast become a favorite activity at conventions, attendees are invited to stop by, meet Digital Marketing Manager Kevin Hoover and snap a pic in front of the giant back-issue adorned banner for a chance to be featured across social media and in the newly launched Grim Reader email newsletter!

Tickets and professional photo ops are on sale now for SPOOKY EMPIRE in Charleston, SC, February 7th and 8th.

Ever since watching CREEPSHOW as a child, Kevin Hoover has spent a lifetime addicted to horror (and terrified of cockroaches). He wholeheartedly believes in the concept of reanimating the dead if only we’d give it the old college try, and thinks FRIDAY THE 13th PART V is the best in the franchise. Aside from writing “Cryptid Cinema Chronicles” for Rue Morgue, he’s been a working copywriter for over a decade and you’ve probably bought something with his words on it. He also believes even the worst movie can be improved with buckets of gore.
