James Tynion IV, creator of the long running horror comic Something Is Killing the Children, has given fans a fresh update on the screen adaptations that have circled the property for years. In comments to Entertainment Weekly this week, Tynion said he is now far more directly involved in development than he was during earlier attempts to bring the BOOM! Studios series to the screen.
Blumhouse acquired film and television rights to the comic last year and is developing a live action feature and an adult animated series at the same time, with Tynion adapting and executive producing the animated side. Tynion credited Jason Blum with personally championing the project and said Blumhouse has shown no hesitation about a story built around children in danger, a concern that reportedly slowed an earlier adaptation attempt at Netflix once linked to director Mike Flanagan, which never moved forward.
Tynion said he is looking forward to seeing Erica Slaughter, the monster hunting protagonist of the comic, realized across multiple formats, and noted that further stories are already underway in what he and Blumhouse are calling the Slaughterverse. No release date or casting has been announced for either the film or the animated series.
