“Something Is Killing the Children” #50 Blind Bag Reveals First Card From New Trading Card Game

BOOM! Studios has confirmed that the Cover C Blind Bag variant of Something Is Killing the Children #50, arriving October 7, carries a guaranteed trading card: an illustrated Erica Slaughter card stamped with the word “Gridstorm,” apparently the working name for an entirely new, not yet announced tabletop game built around the series. No rules, release window, or official title have been confirmed.

Issue #50 is a genuine landmark for the Eisner nominated series, picking up with Erica’s return to the present day as she holes up at the Valmont Mountain Lodge while the Order closes in. Writer James Tynion IV and artist Werther Dell’Edera have spent several years building one of the more durable horror universes in contemporary comics out of that premise, and BOOM! is marking the anniversary by printing roughly a quarter of a million copies of the issue across all its variant covers combined.

The Blind Bag program features a treasure trove of amazing cover artwork you could pull, along with a guaranteed trading card.

Eric Harburn, director of narrative and editor in chief at Tiny Onion Studios, which previously built a card game around BOOM!’s Exquisite Corpses, confirmed the tabletop tie in though the Erica Slaughter card is the only confirmed piece of Gridstorm that exists outside whatever the two companies are still finalizing behind the scenes.

The card ships only inside that specific Cover C Blind Bag printing, meaning the only way to get one is to buy the variant blind, sight unseen, from a participating shop starting October 7. BOOM! has not listed pricing or a wider release through its own online store, pointing fans instead toward their local comic shop for the drop.
