Vampires and a man-made “monster” are continuing their awards-season success.
The nominees for Britain’s BAFTA Film Awards have been announced, and as in many of this year’s other movie honors, Ryan Coogler’s SINNERS and Guillermo del Toro’s FRANKENSTEIN landed multiple mentions, with 28 YEARS LATER also in contention for a major honor. SINNERS became the most-nominated film by a Black director in BAFTA history, receiving 13:

- Best Leading Actor (Michael B. Jordan)
- Best Supporting Actress (Wunmi Mosaku)
- Best Original Screenplay (Coogler)

- Best Cinematography (Autumn Durald Arkapaw)
- Best Production Design (Hannah Beachler, Monique Champagne)
- Best Costume Design (Ruth E. Carter)
- Best Editing (Michael P. Shawver)
- Best Original Score (Ludwig Göransson)
- Best Makeup & Hair (Sian Richards, Shunika Terry, Ken Diaz, Mike Fontaine)
- Best Sound (Chris Welcker, Benny Burtt, Brandon Proctor, Steve Boeddeker, Felipe Pacheco)
FRANKENSTEIN, though it missed out on Best Film and Director, nailed eight noms:
- Best Supporting Actor (Jacob Elordi)
- Best Cinematography (Dan Laustsen)
- Best Production Design (Tamara Deverell, Shane Vieau)
- Best Costume Design (Kate Hawley)
- Best Original Score (Alexandre Desplat)
- Best Makeup & Hair (Jordan Samuel, Cliona Furey, Mike Hill, Megan Many)
- Best Sound (Greg Chapman, Nathan Robitaille, Nelson Ferreira, Christian Cooke, Brad Zoern)
- Best Special Visual Effects (Dennis Berardi, Ayo Burgess, Ivan Busquets, José Granell)
In addition, SINNERS co-star Miles Caton is up for the EE Rising Star Award (voted for by the public), and 28 YEARS LATER is in the running for Outstanding British Film. The BAFTAs will be handed out on February 22.
