Rejoice, Silent Hill fans! With the memories of last year’s incredible Silent Hill 2 remake still fresh in our nightmares, we can expect more of the iconic franchise very, very soon.

As announced during Sony’s PlayStation State of Play event, Konami’s beloved — but also often criminally-ignored — series is getting a new entry this year when SILENT HILL f releases across PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X on September 25th. Few details have emerged about the game since its original announcement way back in 2022, but what is known is sure to appease gamers hungry for another jaunt into the realm of psychological horror.

Set in 1960s Japan, SILENT HILL f is a standalone title, with the devs at Neobards Entertainment having been driven by a mission to “find the beauty in terror.” Seemingly a tall order, considering the game’s landscapes appear to be cloaked in the series’ trademark thick, rolling fog. Melee combat takes precedence over run-and-gun, putting players nose-to-nose with a bevy of J-horror inspired abominations, and puzzles are steeped in mental anguish and suffering.

While awaiting further details to be released over the summer, the new release trailer promises a game that remains unmistakably a Silent Hill entry while attempting to take the series into new, unexplored territory.

SILENT HILL f is available for preorder now in standard and deluxe editions.

Ever since watching CREEPSHOW as a child, Kevin Hoover has spent a lifetime addicted to horror (and terrified of cockroaches). He wholeheartedly believes in the concept of reanimating the dead if only we’d give it the old college try, and thinks FRIDAY THE 13th PART V is the best in the franchise. Aside from writing “Cryptid Cinema Chronicles” for Rue Morgue, he’s been a working copywriter for over a decade and you’ve probably bought something with his words on it. He also believes even the worst movie can be improved with buckets of gore.
