The opening scene of the three-film horror saga takes us back to a very particular time and place.

Netflix has revealed the opening minutes of FEAR STREET PART 1: 1994, the first in the triptych based on the enduring book series by R.L. Stine, debuting this Friday, July 2. This one evokes SCREAM and other films of the decade, as teen mall workers are confronted by a violent intruder after hours. The movies were all directed by Leigh Janiak (HONEYMOON), and 1994 was scripted by Janiak and Phil Graziadei; it stars Kiana Madeira, Olivia Scott Welch, Benjamin Flores Jr., Julia Rehwald, Fred Hechinger and Maya Hawke, the latter seen in the clip below. The synopsis: “A circle of teenage friends accidentally encounter the ancient evil responsible for a series of brutal murders that have plagued their town for over 300 years. Welcome to Shadyside.” FEAR STREET PART 2: 1978 premieres July 9, and PART 3: 1666 arrives July 16.
