An exploitation fave and a new descent into depravity will be terrorizing indoor and outdoor screens.
Grindhouse Releasing has paired its restoration of SCUM OF THE EARTH (pictured), the 1973 shocker from S.F. Brownrigg (DON’T LOOK IN THE BASEMENT) a.k.a. POOR WHITE TRASH PART II, with Matt Enos’ new THE DEATH MOLESTER’S BARN OF BLOOD for a Canadian premiere on Friday, July 18 at Toronto’s Revue Cinema. The cleaned-up SCUM has its U.S. premiere on July 18-19 at Brookline, MA’s Coolidge Corner Theater. SCUM will also screen on Saturday, September 20 as part of Drive-In Super Monster-Rama 2025, which takes place at the Riverside Drive In Theatre in Vandergrift, PA; see the event page here.
SCUM OF THE EARTH stars Norma Moore, Gene Ross, Ann Stafford, Camilla Carr and Charlie Dell. According to the official synopsis, Moore plays “Helen, a young married ‘city gal’ whose weekend at her father’s rustic cabin in bayou country turns into a nightmare of depravity, horror and slaughter. When her husband is brutally axe-murdered, Helen flees for her life into the swamps where she runs into Odie Pickett [Ross], the mean, moonshine-swilling patriarch to a wretched brood: pregnant child bride Emmy [Stafford], rebellious daughter Sara [Carr], and slow-witted, ‘no-’count’ son Bo [Dell]. Low-down, no-good, poor white trash, the scum of the earth–the Picketts have been called every name in the book, but they endure. Taking refuge at the Pickett family’s isolated shack, Helen soon finds out how they live below tobacco road…and how they die, as the lurking, unseen killer strikes, again and again…”
In THE DEATH MOLESTER’S BARN OF BLOOD, “two cretinous brothers begin to suspect that their cousin is ‘The Death Molester,’ a prolific necrophile who has been terrorizing graveyards across the state of Maine. Directed by up-and-coming filmmaker Matt Enos, based on characters from his series THE SLIM DUFFY SHOW, this unrated gorefest features the contributions of composer Mark Fox (THE TEXAS CHAIN SAW MASSACRE: THE SHOCKING TRUTH) and special effects artist Eric Fox (BRING ON THE DAMNED!). Be warned: Nothing can prepare you for a film this vile!”
