Robert Eggers’ “NOSFERATU” is back on track, with Bill Skarsgård starring

And there’s a female lead getting close to signing on as well.

Deadline reports that the long-mooted revival of NOSFERATU from writer/director Robert Eggers (THE WITCH, THE LIGHTHOUSE, THE NORTHMAN) has landed at Focus Features. Bill Skarsgård (pictured), the IT duo’s Pennywise currently on screens in BARBARIAN, will play the title role, and Lily-Rose Depp is currently in discussions to take the female lead. According to Deadline, “In the new reimagining, NOSFERATU is a gothic tale of obsession between a haunted young woman [Depp] in 19th-century Germany and the ancient Transylvanian vampire [Skarsgård] who stalks her, bringing untold horror with him.”

Eggers has long desired to put his own spin on F.W. Murnau’s 1922 silent horror classic, which was previously and memorably remade by Werner Herzog with Klaus Kinski in the lead in 1979. He previously had it set up at Studio 8 in 2019 with his WITCH lead Anya Taylor-Joy and Harry Styles starring, but it was put on hold due to budget and scheduling issues. Skarsgård has been loosely attached to the project for some time, and when Taylor-Joy became too busy, Eggers selected Depp for the female lead. We’ll keep you posted on further updates!
