Playing the pickax-wielding villain of the 3D horror remake was just one entry in a long genre career that has been sadly cut short.

Chris Carnel’s Facebook page reported that he died following a motorcycle accident. Carnel began his stunt career in the 1990s, working (sometimes uncredited) on films like AMERICAN HISTORY X, GONE IN 60 SECONDS, PANIC ROOM and SPIDER-MAN. He joined the pantheon of screen stalkers when he portrayed the murderous Miner of 2009’s MY BLOODY VALENTINE, and the following year, he was a “Car Wash Lunatic” in another remake, THE CRAZIES. His subsequent acting appearances include CHROMESKULL: LAID TO REST 2, NO ONE LIVES (both of which he stunt-coordinated) and this year’s BIRDS OF PREY, and his many stunt credits include THE DEVIL’S REJECTS (on which he doubled for Bill Moseley), the FRIDAY THE 13TH reboot, BONE TOMAHAWK and numerous Marvel movies. He was a frequent guest at horror conventions, and was part of the Hollywood Ghost Hunters along with Kane Hodder, R.A. Mihailoff, Danielle Harris, Adam Green and other genre regulars. RUE MORGUE joins Carnel’s many fans in mourning his passing.
