Richard Stanley doesn’t make your typical genre movies, and that’s not changing with his long-mooted H.P. Lovecraft adaptation THE COLOUR OUT OF SPACE, which announced its cast and start of production today.

SpectreVision and ACE Pictures announced that Nicolas Cage will star in COLOUR OUT OF SPACE, which begins shooting next month. It’s Cage’s second film for SpectreVision after last year’s much-loved MANDY (pictured), and with Stanley at the helm, it promises to be just as gonzo a film. Also in the cast are Joely Richardson, Tommy Chong, Elliot Knight, Julian Hilliard and Q’Orianka Kilcher; SpectreVision’s Daniel Noah, Josh C. Waller, Lisa Whalen and Elijah Wood are producing.

“Lovecraft is the dark father of modern horror,” Noah says, “and we have been searching for an adaptation that captures the true scope of his cosmic dread for years. Richard Stanley—a wizard in his own right—will at long last bring Lovecraft’s humbling power to the screen unfiltered.” With, no doubt, an equally intense turn by Cage at its center. COLOUR, set in the present day, focuses on the Gardners, a New England farm family who find their animals and themselves infected and mutated by a strange force that spreads from a meteorite after it crashes on their property.
