Tubi is adapting another R.L. Stine novel for the screen. Te streamer announced on October 11 that The Babysitter, Stine’s 1989 teen thriller, is being developed into a live action feature targeting a 2027 release, continuing a partnership that already includes R.L. Stine’s Pumpkinhead and its sequel.
The novel follows sixteen year old Jenny, who takes a babysitting job to help pay for a prestigious writing program, even as a prowler has been stalking girls her age around town. Once menacing phone calls start coming in, and a dangerous fugitive turns up nearby, Jenny is left suspecting everyone around her as the danger closes in. First published by Scholastic, The Babysitter spawned three sequels and remains one of the creepier entries in Stine’s catalogue from the years before Goosebumps and Fear Street made him a household name.
Trevor Calverley directs from a script by Jem Garrard, who also executive produces alongside Lance Samuels, Joan Waricha and Jane Stine. Blue Ice is producing, with Dan Bernard, Yvonne Bernard, Tebogo Maila, Darren Cameron and Adam Friedlander attached as producers. No cast has been announced yet, and Tubi has not confirmed a specific release date beyond the 2027 window.
