First person psychological horror game Dreadline Express now has a release date. Developer David Konecny revealed an October 16 launch day during Insider Gaming’s “28 Games Later” horror showcase, alongside a fresh trailer and a limited time demo.
The game, published by Shoreline Games, drops players aboard a train that once belonged to a civilization that has since collapsed, now carrying a handful of survivors. Rather than pointing players toward a fixed set of objectives, Dreadline Express has them piece together who its passengers are and what happened to the world outside the windows.
Discoveries and completed tasks earn cards that collect into a growing album, and those cards reveal connections between passengers while unlocking sections of the train that were previously closed off, turning the album itself into a kind of map of what the player has figured out.
Some outlets have filed Dreadline Express under the informal genre tag “metroidbrainia,” games that borrow Metroid style gated exploration and apply it to pure knowledge instead of items or abilities.
Pricing had not been announced as of this writing. A limited time demo is available now on Steam ahead of the October 16 release, for horror fans looking for something quieter than the genre’s usual jump scares.
