The fifth in the ferocious fruit (vicious vegetable?) franchise is rolling closer.

ATTACK OF THE KILLER TOMATOES: ORGANIC INTELLIGENCE is set to open in select cities, including New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, San Diego and others, on August 7. It will then expand to further sites throughout the month. Directed and edited by David Ferino and scripted by Costa Dillon and Steve Peace (who have been with this saga since the beginning), it features John Astin reprising his Professor Gangreen role from the previous sequels, and also stars Myrna Velasco, Zachary Roozen, Noor Razooky, Dan Bakkedahl, Daniel Roebuck, Paul Bates, Eric Allan Kramer, Samantha Bailey, David Koechner, Eric Roberts, Catherine Corcoran (TERRIFIER), David Brown, Joshua Poon, Vernée Watson and Tom Arnold. The synopsis: “A young biotech prodigy develops a revolutionary genetically engineered vegetable designed to solve humanity’s problems. But when the experiment spirals out of control, it unleashes a new generation of killer tomatoes, setting the stage for another outrageous chapter in the long-runningcult franchise.”

ORGANIC INTELLIGENCE’s trailer will have its world premiere during a panel for the film at San Diego Comic-Con on Friday, July 24 at 7:15 p.m., with the filmmakers and cast attending. They’ll also be signing and merch will be available at the Atomic Toybox booth (#3917). “ATTACK OF THE KILLER TOMATOES started in San Diego in 1978, and now it’s coming home,” says Peace. “We made this one in the city that created it, and there’s no better stage for its return than the biggest pop culture weekend of the year.” You’ll be able to find screening information and keep up with further updates at the official KILLER TOMATOES website; check out a teaser below the poster.
